About this calculator

New Style Jobseeker’s Allowance is a contribution based benefit. It is normally payable for up to 182 days if you have paid enough recent Class 1 National Insurance. Savings and your partner’s earnings do not affect it. Your own earnings reduce the weekly amount after a small disregard and any regular pension income can also reduce it. If your working hours rise to 16 or more each week your JSA usually stops.

Income-based JSA is closed to new claims. Some people still receive it. In that legacy system, your savings can reduce or stop the award using tariff income and your partner’s hours and income can also affect it. We show a savings scale for context and also the Universal Credit capital rules, since UC is the main means-tested benefit that may support living costs if you are out of work.

All rates and thresholds can change. Edit values to match your award letter if needed. This page is for guidance. It is not advice.
