About this calculator

The calculator multiplies your length by width to get area, subtracts openings for walls if supplied, then divides by the effective tile module. If you turn on the grout option it treats each tile as its face size plus the grout gap on both edges, which better reflects a grid layout. Finally it adds your wastage and rounds up to whole tiles and boxes.

Tile sizes and grout gaps are labels in the units you choose. Internally we convert to metres for consistent area maths, then present results back in your chosen area unit.
